Poverty and Participation in the Media

Preview Clips - Documentaries: Potential and Pitfalls. Case of Rich Kid Poor Kid

These clips are a selection from the Poverty and Participation in the Media project, due for DVD release in May. The interviews began in summer 2008 with the most recent being shot in March this year.

All interviews have been produced within Poverty and Participation in the Media Workshops. All interviews and production was conducted by participants.

Rich Kid Poor Kid  was shot in Larkhall, Stockwell, and aired on Channel 4 in November 2008, as part of the Cutting Edge series. The film depicted the stark contrast between the very wealthy and the very poor in London, and the extreme proximity in which they exist.

Spectacle has been running Poverty and Participation in the Media workshops in the area since early 2008. Here, residents discuss their feelings towards the film, its intentions and repercussions felt locally.

These clips, along with footage from other Spectacle projects, can also be viewed in the Archive.
