Im assuming Vinoly is on board for his onsite experience, as to the art deco masterpiece I agree, I had the pleasure visiting the place as an apprentice engineer the original turbine hall really is a work of art, truly amazing place the sheer size too is astounding

Its a derelict mess now tho and as with many such cases is becoming a case of use it or lose it, I see the Farrell design involves losing both turbine halls, so a stadium design where one turbine hall and the main building is kept intact with presumably one stand inserted inside the building and the rest of the stadium added on seems almost tame in comparison!

Is it a ruse to force H&F councils hand? who knows

I do think actually tho that getting Chelsea on board really would finally kick start development, in the present climate and with the white elephant that is the power station (delightful piece of architecture tho it may be) being the main reason why developers wont commit, it may be the only option

The club itself would generate vast income for the area too btw, provide quite an anchor guaranteeing further investment - will Chelsea go south?

The site is nearer to Chelsea and Sloane Square than Stamford Bridge, its an amazing location, Battersea is Chelsea fanbase heartland with said fans showing mostly approval for the location if the club does have to move

Hi,

Ok. but why involve Vinoly if its just going to be a stadium and a renovated power station?

Plus I can think of nothing more inappropriate that a "stadium grafted onto the power station". It is an art deco masterpiece.

Besides I don't really think that Abramovich wants this site but is using it as a bargaining chip for other sites he is more interested in north of the river.

Do you really think Chelsea will go south?

why the aaarrrgggh?

this site has been derelict for 30 years, if Chelsea can solve the problem stopping development, ie taking on the costly power station renovation which makes the whole thing less viable for house builders all well and good

would be a fantastic coup for the borough imo to get the club on board and they would act as an anchor for the whole place kick starting development

plu a stadium grafted onto the power station could make for a truly iconic building
