The Causes of Poverty

Conservative Party Leader David Cameron has said:

“We have to think about the causes of poverty.  We have to disaggregate the problem – to look at the various types of poverty that exist, and the factors that contribute to them.

Because for most people, material poverty is a consequence of other factors. Family breakdown, drug and alcohol addiction, unemployment, poor education…”

Do you agree with these factors being the key reasons behind poverty?  Have you a personal experience of these factors?

  1. I suppose I agree but there are OTHER factors as well.

A friend of mine lost the use of her legs through disease and she cannot work. Her husband needs to stay at home to be a permernant carer… so she and her family have fallen on bad times!

Many people with illness or disability easilly fall onto hard times!

Cameron should ADD THIS to his list!

  2. cammie D
    what do c
    all this poverty
    u blame me
    the begger on the street
if you want to be free
    go earn sum money
but can’t you see society stopping me
    blaming me
    not giving me a chance

answer to cameron comment on poverty blames doesn’t solve anything

  3. When was the last time you were walking down Esher high street and you were mugged by a hoodie? My point…poverty only exists in certain areas. You can work your way out of poverty, and you don’t have to be stuck in the position you are in forever.

At the end of the day, there will always be opportunities, and it is up to everyone to make the most of them and take advantage. The idea that you are stuck in the position you are in is a mental frame of mind which prevents many people in poor areas from managing to progress in society to better incomes, homes etc.

Bottom line is…if you’re born into poverty. Get up, go out and work!!!
