Video Production, Video Editing and Filmmaking Training

Spectacle offers a wide range of short, affordable video production and video editing courses for complete beginners, aspiring filmmakers and anybody in between. We are based in London but can travel within Europe to deliver bespoke group sessions. We believe our courses are the best around, largely based on the exceptional feedback we have received from the hundreds of people we have trained over the years, many of whom have returned time and time again.

WHICH COURSE? Our basic courses are two or four days long depending upon whether you want to learn video production only, or planning and post production too. We also teach video editing separately.

In addition to our basic courses, we offer specialist courses for  anthropologists and social researchersweb marketers, and people interested in participatory filmmaking. We also run an evening workshop on documentary research, for DIY non-fiction filmmakers who want guidance on developing their ideas and getting started.

We also offer one-to-one training and consultation services, for people who want to learn to make high quality video, or who want help with an existing project, but feel none of our courses are quite right for them. If you want to schedule a bespoke course for a group (at your premises or ours) we can arrange that too.

WHO? We believe that with basic training filmmaking can be made accessible to anyone, no matter how old or young you are, or what your background is. We've taught academics and students, aspiring documentary filmmakers and video journalists, web marketers and social entrepreneurs, charity and NGO workers, local authority staff and many others. We pride ourselves on all our participants leaving feeling happy and confident.

If you want to know more about our experience and past work, please see our bio, and tutor Mark's bio, on our  about us page.

WHEN AND WHERE? Our training courses are based at our workshop on  Lavender Hill in Battersea, South London, or we can come to your premises if you are an educational institution, company, charity or organisation that would like us to train a group of people.

For course dates and times please see our specific course pages, or our  calendar.

Anne Toomey, PhD Candidate, University of Lancaster

"I decided to do the training because I wanted to use film work in my research and I really had no idea about starting to do that. I did a two day course, and then based on that I was able to get started in July and August filming in the field and I've already produced two short documentary films and I'm on the third right now. All my training is from Spectacle. I would definitely recommend it to others."

Anne did a Video Production Weekend Course for Anthropologists and Social Researchers last summer, and then returned to take a Four Day Filmmaking Course in the autumn. She also arranged for Spectacle to deliver a Bespoke Group Course at her University. Read Anne's full testimonial here
